She’s Leaving Home

She waits until the house is still
There’ll be no sleep tonight,
The thought gives her a thrill.
The moonlight throws a shadow- on her bedroom door.
It made her cry when she was five,
but she’s not frighten any more.

-------

With trembling hands she touches childhood dreams,
A faded poster from a teenage magazine.
She pins a letter to the mirror on her wall,
And tiptoes softly with her suitcase down the hall.

-------

She’s leaving home
She’s on her own
She just can’t take the fighting any more.
The things she’s seen, at just fifteen.
But now she has the strength to close the door.

-------

The town is sleeping through the cold and misty night.
She whispers sad good-bye’s to friends she leaves behind.
She tells herself that someday she will write,
But she knows the truth is always hard to find.

-------

She’s leaving home
She’s on her own
She just can’t take the fighting any more.
The things she’s seen, at just fifteen.
But now she has the strength to close the door.

-------

In her mind she’s walked this road before,
Searching for the answer to her pain.
She won’t find her peace of mind,
until the past can’t reach her anymore.

-------

She’s leaving home
She’s on her own
She just can’t take the fighting any more.
The things she’s seen, at just fifteen.
But now she has the strength to close the door.
